A death investigation is underway after skeletal remains were found in Melrose this morning.
Alachua County Sheriff's Office investigators were called to the scene.
Investigators say they got the call about 10:30AM from a person who found the remains while they were picking berries in the woods.
It happened on State Road 26 and Northeast 225th Street, a relatively quiet residential road.
Medical examiners were called out and they confirmed the remains were from a human, turning the case into a death investigation.
Detectives roped off the area for about four hours to look for more evidence and leads.
The investigation is still in its very early stages, but we'll bring you more information as we get it.
