GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- Jane Muir, Director of the Innovation Hub in Gainesville, says Ewits started after "we had our first CEO roundtable [and] found there wasn't a single woman as a cofounder and we knew we needed to do something to change the paradigm".
The 10 week program, which meets once a week, teaches through hands on experience. Women are put into a team with a mentor and taught the aspects of running a technological start up.
But Muir says the skills learned in the program are applicable beyond technology startups. Even women with no interest in creating their own startup will benefit from the experiences in this program.
The program also addresses workplace challenges women face, including life balance choices and bolstering self confidence.
This fall, the program enters it's 6th year. So far nearly 250 women have gone through Ewits, giving the program praise.
The information session for this year's session is on August 23 from 4-5pm. To sign up, visit http://ewits.org/
