Former North Marion High student arrested for school threat

A former North Marion High School student has been arrested for threatening to shoot up the school on Monday.

Around 4pm on Friday, March 2nd, 18 year old, Blake Cowart, was arrested after posting a picture of a rifle with large round capacity magazines attached to it, on Snapchat. He captioned the picture, "show and tell at North Marion next Monday."

Several students received the picture from Cowart, and told the North Marion school resource officer about it. Several of the students said they would not be going to school Monday, because they were scared.

According to Marion County Deputies, Cowart said the picture was a joke, and that he had found it on the Internet. Deputies say he told them he doesn't own any guns, and that he would go to North Marion and tell everyone he was sorry and it was a joke.

Cowart is being held in the Marion County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
