Gainesville City Manager investigated

An internal investigation has upheld two allegations that hiring policies were not followed by Gainesville city manager Anthony Lyons.

Two other allegations were not substantiated. Two complains were filed about the process of hiring assistant city manager Dan Hoffman this spring.

The substantiated charges were that two qualified internal candidates were not interviewed for the job, and that the city commission needed to approve any payment of more than $50,000 to the search firm.

In a written response, Lyons argued that the search firm was responsible for choosing which candidates to interview, and the search firm was paid more than $50,000 for multiple contracts.
