Man Resists Arrest and Hospitalizes One Officer

Gainesville police say they arrested a man who attacked police officers at a midtown bar yesterday afternoon.

According to police, 21-year-old Zachary Strayer tried to get into the Salty Dog Saloon, but was escorted out by bouncers.

Police say he was intoxicated and started arguing with officers outside of the bar.

When officers tried to arrest him, police say he became violent.

"He was actually grabbing officers by the shoulder, kicking them, punching them. We had to deploy a taser, which had little to no effect on him, and it ultimately took about six police officers to get him under control and into handcuffs," said Gainesville Police spokesperson, Ben Tobias.

Several officers were hurt and one was taken to the hospital.

Strayer faces many charges including resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication.
