Man who attempted to assassinate former Williston Mayor found guilty, likely to serve life in prison

William Claybourne Taylor has been found guilty of first degree murder and aggravated battery in his role in attempting to kill the former Williston Mayor, as well as killing another man in a different incident.

A twelve member jury found him guilty on both charges following the trial that concluded Friday. A sentencing date has not been given yet, but wit Taylor being found guilty, he will be sentenced to life without parole.

Prosecutors say his motive was a desire to benefit financially, and a renewed motion by the defense for a judgement of acquittal was denied by Judge Anthony Tatti.
