Police arrest teenage car burglars

A pair of teens is in jail tonight after authorities say they were caught trying to break into cars in Alachua County.

Late Saturday night, Gainesville Police received calls about two suspicious people scouting vehicles near the intersection of Tower Road and Newberry Road.

When police got there, the pair ran off.

"Folks may have seen the helicopter up, and the helicopter was able to identify the suspects as they ran away from the scene and direct officers and deputies to the scene and take them into custody," said ASO spokesperson, Sgt. Brett Rhodenizer.

The teens were found to have been involved in several car burglaries that evening.

Deputies are still investigating to see if the suspects are responsible for other burglaries that have been reported in the area recently.
