Shots fired during altercation in Newberry leads to man’s death

NEWBERRY, Fla. The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 7799 SE 30th St., Newberry, Fl. Saturday night.

GCSO arrived and discovered the resident living there and 32-year-old Joshua Akins was involved in an altercation that led to shots being fired.

Akins died from his wounds where the altercation took place.

Witnesses at the scene were interviewed and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators from GCSO and the State Attorney’s office are working together but no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz stated that this was an isolated incident.
