It's a fruit you probably haven't heard of, but might want to try. The persimmon grows easily in North Central Florida and offers an exotic alternative to the apple. Though the fruit looks more like a tomato or small pumpkin, it tastes much sweeter! There are three types of persimmons available and all can be found in the greater Gainesville area.
