GAINESVILLE - Carley Pels thinks the alarm on her new app will help her be found in case of an emergancy.
That alarm is one of the features of American Red Cross's new app called "Hurricane."
"It's very useful because there's a great storm tracker on it," Pels said.
Pels is an intern at the Red Cross center in Gainesville.
She downloaded this App just last week when she found out that Hurricane Isaac could be coming close.
"These are the counties they think it is going to impact and if it's going to be a tropical storm or a hurricane when it impacts these counties," Pels said.
The free App also shows you open Red Cross shelters in your area.
It also helps you organize an emergency plan for you and your family.
Caroline Taylor is a student at the University of Florida, and while she's in Gainesville, her family is on the Space Coast ... a scary place during hurricane season.
"This App is very convenient because it's nice to know when everything is okay and my mom isn't the best at answering her phone, so I can see what the hurricane status is back home," Taylor said.
Taylor knows the danger of these storms.
She and her family rode out several strong storms in 2004.
"We were out of power for a while, so having this app will be very useful,"said Taylor.
With a pre-set message feature, "Hurricane" will let you be ready to let everyone know you're safe.
"You can share via twitter, facebook, email, or text that you are okay and safe," said Pels. "So it gives your family and friends a peace at mind."
