Nine Meningitis Cases in Florida
MARION COUNTY- According to the Florida Department of Health, 3 more cases of fungal meningitis have been discovered in Marion County. This brings Florida's total to 9 cases including the 2 deaths. 2 female patients ages 52 and 79 and 1male patient who is 48 are now among the victims. The Marion County Health Department, Florida Pain Clinic, Marion Pain Management Center and the Surgery Center of Ocala have partnered to contact the few remaining Marion County people that have been in contact wth the contaminated medicine. More cases of the tainted medicine may be discovered. But fungal meningitis cannot be transmitted from person to person. Nationwide, the number of cases of fungal meningitis since the outbrak is 185 with 14 deaths across 12 States.
