GAINESVILLE- The journey to finding the next President of the University of Florida is still underway.
According to representatives of the search committee, they are still in the outreach process in finding a replacement for current president, Bernie Machen.
Representatives with the search committee are still trying to pinpoint a list of notables down finalists for the position of president.
Meanwhile the clock on Machen’s time left in office, is ticking.
Faculty Senate Chair, Cheri Brodeur says, “he’s given us until the end of december 2013.”
Brodeur added it should be enough time to find the standout type candidate the area needs.
Brodeur and other members of the presidential search committee say they’re not the only ones interested in cases like these.
"When you have 11 other universities or actually 23 other universities looking, you want to be in there and a little bit ahead of those people trying to find the best possible candidate,” says Brodeur.
Recognizable names on the wishlist of presidential nominees include Condaleeza Rice, Colin Powell and Jeb Bush.
