A family torn apart by tragedy.
This is a picture of 35 -year- old Deborah Maldonado and her 12 -year- old son Elierzer Soto Maldonado Jr.
Both losing their lives in a tragic car crash.

"To hear that it was them is terrible," said Chelsea Negy.

Negy used to be their neighbor.
She can't believe something like this happened to them.

Early Sunday morning the Maldonado family was headed back from Orlando.
Family friend Joyce Negron said they were celebrating Eliezers Maldonado Sr.s' birthday, but at around 2 a.m. on Sunday 25- year -old Lanessa Riobe, allegedly struck the family car from behind.
the father lost control and hit a guardrail.
Negron told me one of their friends dragged 10 -year- old Ana Deliz Malonado out of the car.
Before Deborah and Eliezer Jr. could escape, a tractor trailer crashed into them and both cars burst into flames.

"I feel bad for his father and sister who have to move on from this tragedy," said Robert Hensel.

Howard Middle School Principal Robert Hensel said he and staff members were devastated when they found out their 7th grade student would no longer be walking their halls.

"He was a nice young man. Never got in trouble. Just came to school worked hard and just behaved. One of those kids you wish you had a classroom full of," said Hensel.

On Monday morning the atmosphere at Howard Middle wasn't like every other day.

"Very somber and reserved and being respectful. A lot of his friends were very upset and shaken because of the accident," said Hensel.

Others in the community are dealing with the loss of their church member. Most said they don't feel emotionally ready to speak on camera.

Negron, who use to go to church with Deborah, describes her as an extraordinary person. Someone who was always smiling and singing. Negron said Deborah was one of the lead singers in the church choir.
and her presence in church can't be replaced.

Memebers of Igelesia Remanente Fiel are raising funds for the father and the daughter. Negron said the family has already spended a large amount of cash on flying relatives over her from pUERTO rICO.

The funeral will be held at Roberts Funeral Home in Ocala.

If you would like to donate you can contact Pastor Erik Freytes at 352-433-6040.

Meanwhile, rRobe refused an interview. She faces three felony charges.
Two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with a death and one count of causing serious injury while driving with a suspended license.
