President Obama's health care law was a step toward better health care for seniors, but there's still a long way to go.

     That's what Florida Senator Bill Nelson said today at UF's aging and and rehabilitation research center.

     Last month Nelson was named the chairman of the aging committee in the senate.

     Today he started a "fact- finding tour" to hear from researchers on issues affecting the elderly.

     UF researchers were recently awarded a five million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop therapies to prevent age- related disabilities.

      "It's a fact among us that we're all living longer and that the percentage Florida's population is going to expand with seniors citizens" said Florida Senator Bill Nelson.       

     Researchers say Florida has the largest proportion of seniors in the Nation.

     Nelson's next stop is on Tuesday at Florida State's University's pepper center.
