GAINESVILLE- It’s down to the final two days to register to vote in the upcoming presidential election and with time running out, voter drives are in full gear.
Postmarked registration forms are also due Tuesday, but a group University of Florida students are offering to hand deliver registration forms for students that sign up to vote and update their registration.
Registration Volunteer, Rachel McGovern says, “It’s all the same form; it takes 90 seconds to fill it out, just with their current address and then they sign and date it and we turn it in for them.”
New voter laws tightening the ability of out-of-county students without an absentee ballot at the polls are part of the reason for the push on campus to rock the vote.
Out-of-county students claiming an Alachua County residence vote on a provisional ballot, which may or may not be accepted based on records and documentation.
After the passage ofthe Voter Reform Bill by Governor Rick Scott last year, the early voting period is cutback from 15 to eight days...one factor that may affect the closeness of the race.
The Alachua County Supervisor of elections office will extend their hours until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday to accommodate the the sudden rush of people wishing to turn in their registration forms.
Early voting for the general election will begin on Oct. 27.
