Crist Vetos 'Landmark' Energy Bill, Says It's Not Enough
Published June 20th, 2007
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Governor Charlie Crist says a 62 (m)
million-dollar energy bill that sponsors called landmark
legislation would not have gone far enough to wean the state off
fossil fuels and reduce global warming. That's why he vetoed it
tonight.
Crist wrote in his veto message that it fell short of focusing
Florida's energy policy on renewable fuels and conservation and
would not have ended fragmentation and regulatory delays that have
stalled progress.
In some instances the bill -- which unanimously passed in both
legislative chambers -- would have taken a step backward. Crist
wrote that he would work with lawmakers to draft a better solution.
