Early Morning Stabbing
Andrea Ayala of Northwest Gainesville might have gotten a full-night's sleep...if not for her two dogs barking at the police cruisers and the yelling outside.
"I heard really, really hysterical screaming that at first, I thought was my neighbors having fun," Ayala said. "I don't even know why I thought that."
When she went outside however, she did not find the party she was expecting.
"I went around the corner and I saw a naked man on my neighbor's porch," she said.
Investigators said at approximately 4:40 a.m., Bradley Daniels, 26, was playing video games at his home on Northwest Third Avenue when 32-year-old Daniel Ipser invited himself in.
"He walked into the home without permission, but the victim did not demand that he leave either. They were acquainted," Gainesville Police Det. Michael Douglas explained. "Mr. Ipser came into the house, and the victim was still awake. He was up playing video games and for some reason that's still not clear, Mr. Ipser produced a knife that he brought with him."
According to Douglas, Ipser then proceeded to repeatedly stab Daniels along the left shoulder and upper chest. Daniels was able to flee the scene and ran to the residence across the street where neighbors called 9-1-1. When police officers arrested Ipser, they determined he had stolen $60 and approximately one gram of cocaine.
"There was paraphenalia found in the apartment and Mr. Daniels' own admission that he was a user of cocaine," Douglas said.
Douglas added he anticipates charges will be brought against the victim as well.
Ayala said learning the suspect was caught so quickly makes her feel better, but it still scares her to think of all the outcomes that were possible:
"It could have gotten so much worse than it did."
