Busted with Nearly Sixty Pounds Of Marijuana
They thought they'd speed through North Central Florida, but their plans quickly changed. It happened early this morning on I75. 34 year old Juan Benavides and 22 year old Joseph Munoz were pulled over for driving one hundred miles per hour, in a seventy mile zone. That's when Sheriffs say they found almost 60 pounds of marijuana. And that's not all they found. Crack, cocaine, prescription drugs, mixing agents, two digital scales with cocaine residue, were just a few other illegal items in their possession. Deputies say both men are from Texas, and are being charged with drug trafficking.
"At this point, they're still checking in to where they were going, what they were doing, and why they would have that large of quantity," says a Spokesperson for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
The two suspects maintain their innocence. They say they're innocent until proven guilty. Deputies say the suspects will remain in the county jail until the judicial process starts. It is undetermined at this point, whether the two have any prior criminal record.
