Child Porn Arrest
By Dan Breitwieser, WCJB TV 20 News.
The arrest comes just days after a deputy got some special training at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The sheriff's office hopes the extra schooling can help catch more offenders.
A cyber-tip criss-crossed the country from Washington D.C. to Sacramento, California and landed in rural Levy County. 66-year-old Milton Bishop was arrested for having child pornography on his computer and sending it to others.
"The investigation continues," says Lt. Evan Sullivan of the Levy County Sheriff's Office. "We don't see any victims that he may have victimized. It was strictly possession and uploading and downloading pornography."
Sullivan spent last week in Washington D.C. taking a course with Internet Crimes Against Children or ICAC. Courses included how to properly record and investigate cases, how to educate kids to keep themselves safe, and legal aspects of an investigation.
"ICAC will provide that training for you free of cost when it doesn't have to come out of the police or sheriff's budget," says Sullivan.
It's only the second internet crime arrest of the year in Levy County. But Sullivan says he knows there's a lot more out there.
"The Sheriff's Office is not only going to be reactive, which a cybertip is reactive," says Sullivan. "We are also going to be proactive. We're going to pursue any tip and be proactive on the internet of any inappropriate action against our children."
If convicted, Bishop faces up to ten years in prison.
