Sniffing Out Bed Bugs
Published November 5th, 2007
A North Central Florida man has successfully trained dogs to sniff out the bugs. Pepe Peruyero says they're the first pups in the nation proven to be able to do it.
The dogs have been extensively tested at the University of Florida.
"The dogs were 100% accurate on the live bugs and they were 90% accurate on viable eggs," said Dog Trainer Pepe Peruyero.
Surprisingly, Peruyero says, it's not just about a keen sense of smell. Successful bug-sniffing dogs must have the right personality for the job.
