LATEST NEWS: The search at Santa Fe has been completed and Students, Faculty and Staff are allowed to leave the buildings. The gunman has been identified as an SFCC student. ACSO has arrested a suspect, identifeid as 21-year old Talon Deante Jackson. The campus reopend for the start of evening classes at 7 tonight. SFCC officials say they used three methods of emergency notification: email, reverse 911 and their own website. They did not use their text messaging notification system because it is not up and running yet.

Students at Santa Fe Community College reported a man being seen with a gun at the Northwest Campus Food Court around 12 pm. SFCC officials are asking students, faculty and staff to take extreme caution while walking on campus. Two buildings were on lock-down. Alachua County Sheriff's Officials and the SFCC PD have completed a search of all buildings on campus.

As part of the emergency alert service, SFCC officials sent this email to students and faculty at SFCC.

GUNMAN REPORTED AT SFCC NORTHWEST CAMPUS

A man displayed a handgun at the Santa Fe Community College Northwest Campus Food Court at approximately 12 p.m. noon Tuesday, February 19. The weapon was not used.

The individual is reported to be an African American male with a dark complexion, approximately 5 feet five inches in height with a medium build, wearing a green and brown striped shirt with baggy blue shorts that reach his ankles.

A man fitting the description of this individual was reported five minutes later at the SFCC Gym without incident. There are no other reports on this individual.

SFCC Police officers responded at the scene and called the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, which is responding to the Northwest Campus.
All students and employees are urged to exercise caution. Do not approach this individual.

Along with the email, college officials say they did a reverse 911 call and posted alerts to their website.
