Operation Respect Yourself

Officers with the Gainesville Police Department took advantage of the sunny day by having a pool party. But it wasn't just fun and games kids attending heard from community leaders and officers on staying safe and out of trouble.
GPD officers say they're seeing a number of fights in East Gainesville, including one about three weeks ago that was so big it forced the fire station near Citizens Field to go on lockdown. Police hope the pool party which was called operation respect yourself will reunite communities and also develop a better relationship between police and the kids who attended.
Captain Lonnie Scott says the police department plans to do more events like operation respect yourself this summer.
