Too Many Cats
Published June 9th, 2008
The Alachua County Humane Society currently has almost 200 cats.
Animal Care Manager Norma Overton said during this time of year about 50 percent of all cats are pregnant. Overton said that the Humane Society has gotten at least one new litter of kittens every day since April. Overton said cat owners can help stop the problem.
"They should get them sterilized by two months of age. If there are wild animals in their area, they should get the sterilized as well through operation cat nip."
In an effort to find these cats homes, the Humane Society has an event in the works. It's called the Meow Luau and is scheduled for Mid-July.
