Jewelry Chase to Villages
Published July 22nd, 2008
For a while residents of the villages were put on alert as deputies searched for one of the suspects involved in the burglary.
Even though all of them have been caught some say all the ruckus from this morning has got them a little on edge.
Including Villages resident Virginia Clawson.
"You just don't know it could happen in the morning, afternoon evenings or whenever."
Clawson is glad all of the suspected burglars have been caught and that people should never let their guard down against criminals entering their neighborhoods.
Jenifer Fisher with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says, the pursuit initially began when police responded to a burglary in process at a jewelry store in the city of Ocala.
"When we responded to the scene four suspects fled in a silver accord south on 441 into south Marion county and into Lake county."
We secured dash cam video from the cruiser in pursuit right after the burglary had taken place at the silver city jewelry store. Police followed in speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.
Law Enforcement set up a mobile command center to find the fourth suspect. Deputies found him across the street, at Walmart asking employees about the fastest way out of the city.
"He asked where was the next county, how fast could he get there, he left the store and was seen by our detectives in the parking lot looking into vehicles acting very suspiciously."
24-year old Steven Dawson... along with 28-year old Frank Robins, 24-year old James Mccray Jr.and 20-year old Alexander Grant are all from Miami-Dade county.
Police say surveillance video taken from outside of Walmart shows one of the suspects being dropped off by someone in a 2008 GMC Acadia.
That person is not a suspect police would just like more information from them.
