Voter Registration Deadline For Primary Election Right Around The Corner
The reason those positions will be filled on August 26th is because all candidates running for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the Property Appraiser's Office are Democrats. Incumbent Sheriff Sadie Darnell is running against Lonnie Scott, and Property Appraiser Ed Crapo is running against Alonzo Perkins.
Tom Oliver is working hard putting up signs and trying to create awareness.
"I think in this race in particular for the property appraiser's office, we're trying to get out to the public that election date and the importance of it," said Oliver.
"It's very important for voters to know that with the universal primary, the selection will be made in August for their sheriff and property appraiser," said Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Pam Carpenter. "Those names will not appear on the November ballot."
University of Florida sophomore Ryan Levick was not aware of the difference in this year's primary, but says he's not concerned
"The only election I want to vote in is the presidential, as long as I'm able to vote in that I'm okay," said Levick.
But, he did learn that if he wants to vote in that election, he'd better hurry up as the registration deadline is only a short time away.
"I want to remind everybody that Florida law says that you must be registered 29 days prior to the election in order to vote so the last day you can register for the August 26th election is July 28th," said Carpenter.
