Grinch Strikes Bertie Heating And Air
Early this morning more than 10 thousand dollars' worth of tools were stolen from employee trucks.
Joseph Hutchinson is a single dad who has a tough time making ends meet for his son and daughter. and now that his personal work tools were stolen this morning, getting the job done may be even tougher.
Hutchinson says, "There is only one present under the Christmas tree and I don't know how there is going to be anymore as of right now."
Hutchinson wasn't the only one affected by the burglary. Five of his co-workers, all with children, had their tools stolen also.
"Basically without tools they have no job," says Hutchinson. "They cannot do their job without tools."
Many home visits were canceled today due to the burglary. Employees went shopping for new tools today with help from company owner Jim Bertie. The work tools aren't cheap either...the average set costs 2-3 thousand dollars.
"Many of the tools that were stolen had the company's name engraved or labeled on them so if the thief tries to make some money off these tools, they're probably not going to get very far," warns Bertie.
Gainesville Police Department Officer Summer Hallet says they're looking for suspects.
"We will try and do whatever we can to identify some suspects to locate the property and return that property to Bertie's."
Surveillance video shows a white pickup truck pulling up next to the parking lot gate. You can only see a flashlight as someone smashes a window and breaks into three trucks.
Bertie says this is the worst time of year for a burglary: " We all have to stick together in these times. It's not the time to go out and steal things."
Hutchinson is hoping for a miracle, and whether that miracle is getting his tools back or putting more presents under his Christmas tree, he says spending time with family this Christmas is all that matters to him.
