Weekend Crash Kills Suwannee County Child

A Saturday afternoon crash has claimed the life of an 11-year old Suwannee County girl. Aylissa Jones, of O'Brien was killed when a 2003 Pontiac driven by 24- year old Nicole Marie Sallas, also of O'Brien, rolled over on 89th Road north of O'Brien. According to a Florida Highway Patrol release, the Pontiac was traveling south on 89th Road, when for unknown reasons, Sallas lost control. The vehicle traveled up an embankment and rolled over, ejecting Jones, before striking a tree. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, and Sallas was taken to Shands of Live Oak with serious injuries. Neither were wearing seat belts, and charges are pending against Sallas while FHP investigates the incident.
