DTV Switch- The Final Countdown
In about t minus twenty four hours TV 20 will turn off our analog signal and broadcast only in digital. Nearly 700 american t-v stations will be doing the same thing by the end of Tuesday night.
It's not too late to set up your digital converter box, so you won't be stuck in the dark tomorrow night at 11:59.
"There is no reason to wait til the last minute, says Larry Lambert an engineer at TV 20.
He reminds us the clock is ticking until tv 20 turns off its analog signal.
"We and all the other stations in town are already broadcast in digital," he says.
But Lambert says if you don't have a digital tv or you don't have a digital converter box set up properly by Tuesday night, you will not be able to watch your favorite ABC and CW shows anymore.
"All the converter box is a receiver. it picks up the rf from the antenna and converting it to an analog that your t.v. is able to receive," says Lambert.
Getting the converter box is just the first step. Once you buy your digital converter box you're going to want to set it up. so the first thing you do is take the r-f antenna cable and hook it up to the back of the converter box, right where you see the label antenna/cable in. The next step is to take another r-f cable and hook it up to the back of the converter box. From the other end of the cable you will hook it to the back of your t.v. If both cables are plugged in properly, as long as your t.v. has access to a power outlet and the converter box is plugged in, you should see a signal. If you don't make sure you go back through the directions and retrace your steps.
Lambert says if you are still having trouble, it may have to do with the antenna on your tv.
"If you are way out in the country, you may need a bigger antenna, an outdoor antenna. a lot of people can get away with an indoor antenna just mounted, one of the set top boxes," he says.
And thanks to a digital converter box and a working antenna, as of 11:59 on Tuesday night all televisions will now broadcast a clear and uninterrupted picture. Lindsay Milbourne TV 20 News
