Gainesville Shooting
Published February 21st, 2009
The Alachua County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was responding to the IHOP Restaurant off of SW 13th Street around 2:40 this morning. The deputy was doing a routine check when he heard gun shots.
The deputy located a lot full of cars and saw people running from the area. Deputies did find one person who was shot, but it was non-life threatening.
Authorities say they continue to see a problem in this area at night on the weekends. ACSO Lt. Steve Maynard says, "(What) seems to be the source of the problem, we get a large crowd. They get into verbal arguments and unfortunately, like last night, it leads to gun play."
Authorities are looking for 2007 or 2008 gray Chevy Impala. It was occupied by at least two people.
