Teacher Arrested for Carrying Gun on Campus
43-year old Mark Stockdale, a math teacher at Eastside High School, was arrested at the school for carrying a loaded handgun on school property. Deputies from the Alachua county Sheriff's Office had been asked to assist the Gainesville Police Department in arresting Stockdale for a battery charge stemming from a Feb. 8th incident. Prior to being placed in a Sheriff's vehicle, Stockdale was asked if he had any weapons. He admitted to having a small pocket knife, and as deputies were searching for it, they discovered a loaded derringer-type handgun in his front pocket. Stockdale's car was then searched, where deputies found another loaded handgun. Stockdale was arrested and is being booked into the Alachua County Jail on two counts of possessing a firearm on school property. Stay tuned to TV20 for further updates as this story unfolds.
