Botsford leaving in July
Published June 11th, 2009
The time table for change at the top of the Gainesville Police Department is accelerating.
Chief Norman Botsford announced today (June 11) that his last day will be in less than a month - July 6.
That's almost four months earlier than he had first indicated. Retired Capt. Tony Jones, who helps run the Reichert House for young men, was named interim chief.
This comes shortly after the June 1 deadline for people to apply for the job. The 93 applicants include two local officers, GPD Capt. Lonnie Scott and GPD Maj. Rick Hanna.
