Fireworks Safety Tips
Fireworks are a big part of july forth celebrations and fire officials want to remind you of important tips on how to keep both you and your family safe.
Officials say there are five main tips for people who are planning on having fireworks on Independence Day.
*If you are planning on buying fireworks from a tent, be sure they are a reliable licensed dealer.
*When you light fireworks, have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water close by.
*Also, never try to relight a dud, if it doesn't work, then leave it alone.
*Make sure whoever is handling the fireworks hasn't been drinking.
*Do not purchase or ignite illegal fireworks.
Carol Davis is a spokesperson for the Alachua County Fire Rescue, she explains the importance of firework safety.
"The most important thing we want to make sure that everybody is careful around fireworks, they are extremely hot and combustible and we do see an increase in burns or firework related injuries."
When purchasing fireworks, make sure they are legal. The only type legal fireworks intended for Fourth of July celebrations are those that stay on the ground. Anything else is to be used for agricultural reasons only. Officials say they could press charges if illegal fireworks are the cause of a fire.
