Schools Urging Parents to Get Head Start on Registration
Even though the start of school is still weeks away, last minute or late registration has been a common trend at Alachua County schools in recent years.
Schools are seeing fewer students registered during the summer. As a result, school officials are urging parents to register their children during the summer instead of at the beginning of the school year.
"If we have a huge influx of people that haven't registered then we have to realign our classes and move children around," said Kimball Wiles Elementary principal Dr. Barbara Buys. "And nobody likes that."
An average of 1200 students are expected to register after the new school year starts. Most of the students needing to register are first-time enrollees or students moving from different school zones.
