Craiglist Scam Hits Our Area
Many people use the popular website Craigslist for a number of things, like to buy cars, find new pets, or find a house for rent.
But the website has had problems in the past and now a scam has hit our area.
High Springs resident Daniel Davis searched for a house to rent on Craigslist.com and found a 4 bedroom/2 bath house for 750.00 dollars.
He thought the offer was suspicious but went ahead and sent a check to a man in Nigeria.
the scam artist said he was a soldier stationed in Nigeria and that he just needed someone to take care of the house.
Davis went ahead and sent a two-hundred dollar deposit through a western union money transfer.
"I sent the money that morning and the real owners called right after that"
The real owner of the house contacted Davis to tell him it was a scam.
Davis filed a police report but knows that no matter what he has lost his money.
