Two Walmarts...Two Different Decisions
One city is on it's way to welcoming a new business while another is sticking with the one it already has. Alachua is working on bringing a Walmart Supercenter to town, but one Walmart in Gainesville won't become a "Super" Walmart anytime soon. Commissioner Scherwin Henry says the decion of the Citizen's Advisory Board to deny the plan was a mistake. "People are having a hard time out there, and whatever decent jobs we can bring to help citizens support their families and achieve a good quality of life...we need to do that."
Walmart is making strides in another North Central Florida area. Alachua City Manager Clovis Watson Jr. is working with Walmart representatives to bring the retail giant to the city. Final approval has not been made but if it is approved the store will be located at the intersection of I-75 and U-S 441.
