Lake City Police Search for ATM Bandit
The Lake City Police Department is asking the public for help in finding a man who stole an entire ATM from a convenience store and draged it behind his car early this morning. The man's image was captured from a security camera inside the store. He is described as a heavy-set black male with a black do-rag on his head. He was wearing a white sleaveless shirt with dark colored shorts and a pair of black and white shoes.
According to police records, officers arrived at the Stop-N-Go Food Mart on southwest Main Boulevard around 4 o'clock this morning after the store's alarm was set off. They found the store's front windows smashed in and marks on the ground indicating something was draged from inside the store down the street. The surveilience video confirms that item was an ATM. The video also shows the suspect smashing through the store's front windows with a crow bar.
After tracing the drag marks, police believe the suspect draged the ATM south on Alachua Avenue and then east onto Montgomery Street. That is where the marks were lost.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Lake City Police tip line at (386) 719-2068. Callers can remain anonymous.
