Levy Sinkhole
Published January 27th, 2010
The state Department of Transportation has re-opened the northbound lanes of US Highway 19 in Levy county that had been closed Tuesday by a sinkhole. The hole surfaced on Tuesday when construction crews drove heavy equipment over the area. No equipment got stuck but when the dirt settled there was an eight foot hole in the middle of the highway. The workers filled in the hole and used ground penetrating radar to see if the rest of the highway was in danger.
