Police: Man Lures Victims With Fake Emergency, Then Robs Them
Gainesville police said Joseph Barbesco is luring his victims in with a fake emergency. And once, they trust him enough to allow him into their vehicles, he robs them at knife point, according to police.
Barbesco was arrested Friday night for armed robbery.
Gainesville police said Barbesco is also a suspect in several other robbery scams.
"We had at least two or three incidences in our department store parking lots along Archer Road in the past few days, where a white male was kind of praying on people's generosity," Captain Ed Book said.
Police said the first scam occurred outside of Kohl's. Another scam occurred in the Walmart parking lot at Butler Plaza.
Police are asking anyone that feels they have been a victim of these scams to call the Gainesville Police Department.
