Weekend Spotlight 2-12-10
It's a cold, wet and miserable night outdoors, so what is going on around North Central Florida this weekend.
To start your Valentine's Day weekend off right, go to a cooking class for a date night. Starting Friday at 6 p.m., Dine by Design will show you how to cook the perfect menu for a traditional, romantic Valentine's Day meal.
- mango chopped salad
- honey-peppered salmon over a bed of strawberry pasta
- lemon asparagus
- and chocolate lava cake with coffee ice cream
Go to 3345 SW 34th Street in Gainesville to get down with cooking some love.
On Saturday, the Gators men's basketball team will take on Xavier at 6 p.m. in the O'dome. With only six games left after Saturday night's matchup, all against SEC teams, the Gators are currently 17-7 overall and 6-4 in their conference. Florida lost by six points, on the road, against the Gamecoks on Wednesday night, hoping to rebound against Xavier.
Swing into spring with the University of Florida jazz band on Saturday night if you don't plan on attending the game. The UF College of Fine Arts is having an event put on by the UF Friends of Music to benefit the College of Fine Arts and the School of Music. This event will be held at Steinbrenner Band Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. It's a cocktail chic attire event. There will be wine, hors d' oeuvres and desserts by Celebrations catering for you to enjoy along with the music.
On Sunday, join TV20's David Snyder, Chris Price and Aaron Boll for the Five Points of Life races. Hundreds of runners in Gainesville will be tying up their sneakers this weekend for the opportunity to exercise and raise awareness. The Five Points of Life main focus is to inform people of the need for lifesaving donations such as blood, marrow, organ and tissue.
Another event this weekend is the Steinhatchee Chamber of Commerce Fiddler Crab Festival on Saturday. The parade will start at 10 a.m. and TV20's Paige Beck will be the grand marshal. There will be art, music, a swampwater cook off, a kids fishing camp, eco tours and more.
