Deputies: Resident Thwarts Would-Be Car Thief With Keyless Device
Published March 6th, 2010
A couple of would-be car thieves found creative ways to get caught Friday morning.
Columbia County Sheriff's Office Deputies say a man attempting to steal a car early Friday morning didn't plan to get trapped inside. A resident told deputies that Travis Neely, of Fort White, was trying to steal his car so he used the keyless entry pad to lock Neely inside until authorities arrived.
That incident led to a second arrest. Deputies say Peter Scandizzo of Lake City made a very wrong turn driving by the scene in a stolen vehicle, and when deputies tried to stop him, he kept going.
Scandizzo was later arrested at his mother's house.
