GPD Officer Accused Of Sexual Harassment, Watching Porn While On Duty
A Gainesville Police Officer has resigned in the middle of an investigation about complaints of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior.
Officer Laurence Gilbert, 39, was accused of making inappropriate comments to female employees and watching pornographic videos while on-duty.
Gilbert had been a member of the Gainesville Police Department for six years. But, last week he resigned before the conclusion of a nearly three month investigation into alleged misconduct.
A complaint was filed last December against Gilbert. Testimony from the report revealed he made inappropriate comments to female employees, such as "I like real porno from top to finish."
The report also says while working he watched porn on his personal laptop and also on his iPod.
Saved bookmarks on that device included a video showing "a woman involved in sex acts with horses and dogs."
The investigation was completed on Thursday, even though Gilbert had resigned a week earlier, a move that saved him from leaving the decision in the hands of the department.
Captain Lonnie Scott says the department's findings will next be forwarded to the state certification board for law enforcement.
