TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The sponsor of a divisive bill making it easier to fire teachers and tie their pay to student test scores says changes are possible.

Even before the House passed the legislation (SB 6) at 2:26 a.m. Friday after more than eight hours of debate, Sen. John Thrasher said a "glitch" bill might be used to satisfy Gov. Charlie Crist, who says he has issues with the measure.

Crist, whose office is being flooded with calls and e-mail urging a veto, has backed off from his earlier support, saying he's unsure if he'll sign it.

The bill, opposed by teachers and their unions, went to Crist on a 64-55 vote in the Republican-controlled House after more than eight hours of debate.

All Democrats and eight Republicans voted no.
