Alachua County Greenhouse Gases Report
Published May 14th, 2010
It has been said "what gets measured gets managed" and that is the goal for reducing Alachua County's greenhouse gas emissions. County workers have completed a full report on greenhouse gases emitted by the county in 2008 and 2009. The inventory counted everything from how much gas weedeaters used to how much energy each building used. Buildings, facilities, and fleet cars accounted for the majority of the CO2 emissions. The county was just short of reaching the goal of reducing greenhouse gases by 20% from 1990 levels. The county hopes to reduce its carbon footprint by 5% each year by continuing to purchase more fuel efficient cars and renovating buildings to make them more energy efficient.
