Lawtey Police Officer Arrested
Bradford County Sheriff's Office arrested one of their own today. Former Lawtey Police officer Kenyatta Sheffield was caught stopping traffic violators and giving them the option of paying their fines immediatly in cash. Sheffield also said if they paid right away, they would avoid getting points on their license. On May 5th a concerned citizen called the Bradford County Communications Center to see if what officer Sheffield said was proper protocol. Deputy Kelli McMahan realized the severity of the complaint and comtacted Lawtey Police with the concern. Sheffield was then immediatly suspended. After his arrest he was transferred to the Bradford County Jail without incident and is being held in protective custody until his first appearance tomorrow morning.
