Gas Pump Skimmer Scam
Published July 7th, 2010
A skimmer device was placed inside one of the Shell gas station pumps off of Newberry Road. Deputies believe a scam artist put it there sometime after July 2nd. A gas inspector found it Tuesday and contacted authorities. Lt. Steve Maynard with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office says," Someone with a key or device that gives them access to the pump is going to likely be our suspect."
First Coast Energy who owns the Shell station say,"They are cooperating with law enforcement and have taken extra security measures to prevent this from happening again."
Deputies have destroyed the skimmer and the credit card information that was on there, is gone.
