Former police officer Johnny Hornes died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. A veteran with the Gainesville police department for more than 38 years, Hornes was a fixture at their front desk and was also the escort driver for the UF football team. He was diagnosed with stage four gastric cancer earlier this year. Johnny Hornes was 67 years old.
