Candidates Forum, Faith's Role
They are two topics considered taboo but religion and politics were prominent Thursday evening at a candidates forum. Those running for Alachua County School Board said spirituality will play a part in their in decision-making. The belief was shared by those running for Alachua County Commission. The forum was hosted by Westside Baptist Church whose associate pastor said it is more than fair to ask candidates where they stand on religion.
"Spirituality is related to a person's convictions and their moral compass and certainly we believe what you believe to be right effects the decisions that you make," said Phil Young of Westside Baptist Church.
One of the issues facing the school board is whether the state will introduce a merit pay program for teachers. All four candidates said they are against it. To see more on this story, watch the video to your right.
