Happy Friday everyone! It's nice to finally get to the end of the week. And while a lot of activities this weekend are connected to the University of Florida's Homecoming, there's plenty to do even if you're not near the UF campus.
The granddaddy of all the activities this weekend is Gator Growl on the UF campus in Gainesville. Hard to believe what's known as the largest student run pep rally is in it's 87th year! More than 500 student volunteers are pitching in to make this latest show a success. Headlining this year is Aziz Ansari, the 27 year old actor and stand-up comic. The time to "Let the Gator Growl" is 7 pm this evening in the Swamp. Your text to link...
If the theatre is more to your liking....the Hipp will be the place you want to be as the play "Dracula" puts the bite on downtown Gainesville. The performance of the modern version of the vampire classic starts tonight at 8. If your going to be tied up with Gator activities...have no fear. The show runs through November seventh. You can check out the Saturday performances at 5:00 and 8:30 pm....and again on Sunday at 2:00 and 7:30 pm. Your text to link...
Things will be hopping over on the Gulf coast this weekend as the 41st Annual Cedar Key Seafood Festival will be in full swing. Aside from tasty oysters, clams, clam fritters....well, you get the idea....there'll be plenty going on. The festival that celebrates the areas fishing heritage will also feature live music and over 200 exhibits of arts and crafts. The Cedar Key Seafood Festival runs Saturday and Sunday from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon. While you're on the island you can take a shuttle boat from the city marina to Seahorse Key. That island, and it's lighthouse, will be open to visitors. Your text to link...
Finally, if you can't get to the coast try out the Alachua Harvest Festival in the City of Alachua. The town just north of Gainesville on highway 441 will be buzzing on Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm as the festival will be underway. You can expect live music, food, rides for the kids, and arts and crafts. There will be over 150 vendors there Sunday.....Just go to Main Street in the City of Alachua. Your text to link...
