Happy Friday everyone! Fall weekends can be pretty busy around our area and this weekend is no exception. Whether it's sports, music or festivals, there's plenty to do here this weekend.
The Phillips Center may be a little spooky tonight as the ballet production of "Dracula" hits the stage. The Dance Alive National Ballet is performing the classic story of good versus evil. The performance by Gainesville's own professional ballet company starts at 7:30. You'll want to hang out near the stage at intermission to catch the halloween costume contest. It's all tonight at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Gainesville. Your text to link...
South of Gainesville the beautiful town of Micanopy will be busy this weekend. The 36th Annual Micanopy Fall Harvest Festival will be underway with upwards of 10,000 visitors expected. The festival will feature live music and fun for the kids....in addition to the arts and crafts and antiques you would expect. Around 300 vendors from around the southeast will be there....with a portion of the proceeds going to help local, non-profit organizations. The festival runs Saturday from 9 to 5 and on Sunday from 9 to 4 in downtown Micanopy. Your text to link...
Plenty of kids will be trick or treating this weekend. If you're looking for some safe halloween fun check out "Boo at the Zoo" at Santa Fe College. The colleges teaching zoo will host the annual event which had almost 6,000 attend last year. Boo at the Zoo will feature a 10 acre forest with glowing lights, candy stations...in addition to games and activities for the kids. To get in just bring a canned good....which will go to local food banks. Boo at the Zoo is Sunday from 3 until 7:30 pm...and don't forget a bag to collect your candy! Your text to link...
Festivals are popular around our area this time of year....and so are corn mazes! The Newberry Cornfield Maze at Hodge Farms is back. In addition to the corn maze itself (with a mini maze for kids, too) there will be hay rides, a corn cannon, and more. You can check out the "corn hut" which is like a sand box...except filled with dry corn. Hodge Farms is located at Newberry Road and SW 202nd Street in Newberry. Your text to link...
And if you can squeeze it in....try trick or treating in downtown Alachua Saturday....and if you're into punk music try out "The Fest 9" in downtown Gainesville this weekend.
