UF Board of Trustees Approve Block Tuition
One of the last roadblocks to block tuition at UF was hurdled today. The UF Board of Trustees approved a measure 9 to 1 that would start a block tuition system by 2012. Block tuition would mean all full-time undergraduate students would pay a flat tuition rate equivalent to today's 15 credit rate. Even if you take 12 credits you pay the 15 credit rate. Lone dissenter and Student Body President Ashton Charles says there are too many unknowns for her to approve block tuition at this time. UF President Bernie Machen said the university compromised by pushing back the start of the program to 2012 and will seek to answer questions until then. The final fate of block tuition will rest in the hands of the Florida Board of Governors, which will vote on it early in 2011.
